북한의 상황 The Situation in the North

 

김정은과 트럼프 대통령의 정상회담 이후 많은 외교 활동과 다른 움직임들이 있었습니다. 김정은은 싱가폴에 이어 중국을 방문하여 이번 회담에 반색을 표한 시진핑의 애정어린 환영을 받았습니다. 이 두 지도자는 중국-북한 간 유대를 더욱 심화시키는데 동의했습니다. 트럼프대통령과의 만남은 북한주민들이 칭찬하는 김정은의 “확고한” 스타일의 이미지를 공고히 하는 계기가 되었습니다. 정상회담에 이어 김정은은 즉각 핵심간부들과의 특별회의를 통해 미국에 맞서 큰 승리를 거둔 것을 대대적으로 광고하면서 여기에 부합되는 메시지가 외부로 나가도록 조치하였습니다. 또한 김정은의 출타 중에 국내정세가 조용히 유지되도록 주요 간부들에 대한 통제를 강화하고 국경지역의 경비 수위를 높인 척하였습니다. 그러나 경비대는 업무량이 늘어난 데 불만을 품었습니다. 김정은은 자신의 영도력에 더욱 자신감을 가지고, 충성맹세와 함께 예전의10대원칙을 5개 조항으로 축소하는 중요한 변화를 도입했습니다. 새로 나온 맹세의 내용을 보면 김정은의 친부와 조부에 대한 촛점이 다소 약화되었습니다. 또한 김정은은 지난 5년간 중단된 집단체조를 재개하도록 지시하였습니다.

There has been a lot of diplomatic and other activity following the summit talks between Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump. Kim followed his Singapore trip up with one to China where he was warmly received by Xi Jinping who expressed that he was quite pleased with the Singapore summit. The two leaders agreed to deepening Chinese-North Korean ties. His meeting with Trump also seems to have bolstered his image at home where folks are complementing his "resolute" style. Following the summit, Kim wasted no time in making sure that the right messages were getting sent out through special meetings of the cadres while touting his immense victory against the U.S. He also took steps to assure that everything would stay calm while he was away by tightening control over key personnel and faking heightened security near the borders. However, many of the security agents are not pleased with their increased workload. Kim is feeling more confident of his rulership and has introduced major changes to the old The Ten Articles, reducing their number to 5 along with calling for new loyalty oaths. There is less focus on his father and grandfather in the new oath. He is also called for the mass games to be resumed after a five-year hiatus.

 

싱가폴 정상회담의 실제 성과에 대한 전문가들의 의견이 엇갈리고 있습니다. 어떤 이들은 미미한 성취라고 하는 반면 다른 이들은 트럼프대통령이 중요한 진척을 이루었다고 하며, 시간을 두고 기다려봐야 한다는 이들도 있습니다. 미국은 김정은이 후속조치를 실행할 기한을 줄 것이라고 발표했습니다. 그 동안 북한 영변의 핵 원자로의 기반시설을 개발하는 일이 계속되고 있으며 실험장소는 아직 해체되지 않고 있습니다. 북한에 한 가지 긍정적인 결과가 나타나고 있습니다. 그것은 반미선전과 반미를 외치는 집회가 줄어든 것입니다. 동시에, 북한과 남한 간의 군사와 해양 통신 라인이 재개되는 동안 한미 합동훈련을 연기하기로 양국이 찬성하였습니다. 또한 남북을 이어주는 철로를 현대화하기 위해 회의 중입니다.

In terms of practical results from the Singapore summit, analysts are mixed in their reviews. Some feel that little was accomplished while others are saying that Trump has made major progess and others adopting a wait-and-see attitude. The U.S. affirms that they will be giving Kim a set of deadlines for follow-up. Meanwhile, work continues on improving the infrastructure at North Korea's Yongbyun nuclear reactor and test sites are not yet being dismantled. There is one positive result apparent in North Korea. That is the easing of anti-American propaganda and rallies. At the same time, the U.S. and South Korea have agreed to put all regular joint military exercises on hold while military and maritime communications lines between North and South are open again. There is also talk of modernizing the cross-border rail lines.

 

이 모든 일을 숙고해볼 때, “사람이 마음으로 자기의 길을 계획할지라도 그의 걸음을 인도하시는 이는 여호와시니라.” (잠언 16:9)는 말씀처럼 모든 것을 다스리시는 분이신 우리 주 하나님을 계속해서 바라봅니다. 감사하게도 만물이 하나님의 손 안에 있습니다.

As we contemplate all of this, we continue to look to the Lord God as the One who controls all things and remember that even as "The mind of man plans his way, the Lord directs his steps." (Proverbs 16:9). All things are thankfully in His hands.

 

감옥에 갇혀 있는 우리의 형제들을 기억합니다 Remembering Our Brothers in Prison

 

 

터키에 갇혀있는 앤드류 브런슨 목사를 위한 상황에 진척이 있어 얼마나 기쁜지요. 미국 상원의원이 그의 석방을 위해 강한 압력을 가하고 있으며 터키의 에르도안대통령이 미국과 더 깊은 연대를 추구하는 와중에 브런슨 목사를 계속 억류하다가는 큰 대가를 치르게 될것이란 사실을 깨닫기 시작한 것 같습니다. 우리는 브런슨 목사가 속히 풀려나기를 기도합니다.

We are getting excited about developments in Turkey concerning Pastor Andrew Brunson. U.S. senators have been pushing hard for his release and it appears that Turkish President Erdogan may be waking up to the fact that continuing to hold him may be too costly as he seeks deeper ties with the U.S. We pray that Andrew's release truly be coming closer.

 

북한에 억류되있는 최송민과 (가명, 데일리 엔케-Daily NK-기자) 여섯 명의 한국인을 위해 계속해서 기도하고 있습니다.

We continue to pray for six South Koreans held in the North as well as Daily NK journalist, Choi Song Min (alias).

 

근래 몇 명이 석방되어 감사드리고 계속해서 2018년안에 모든 구금자들이 풀려나기를 기도합니다.

We thank the Lord for those who have been released recently while continuing to prayer that 2018 be the year of full release.

 

생명의강 학교 The River of Life School

 

학생들은 18일, 교사들은 20일 여름방학을 시작합니다. 이미 보고드린 대로 이번 학기는 전 학교가 함께 여행하며 제주 글로벌게더링, 다음학교와의 미니DTS, 파주 뉴코리아 기도게더링으로 인해 아주 분주했습니다. 그 전에는 (학교 부지에는 눈이 그리 많이 오지 않았지만) 학교로 연결된 수도관이 얼어서 학기를 삼수령센터에서 재미있게 시작했습니다. 학생과 교사들 모두 계획되어 있던 행사들과 계획엔 없었던 행사들을 치르며 해야할 모든 일들을 다 처리하느라 수고를 많이 하였습니다. 모두가 여름방학 동안 정말 잘 쉴 자격이 있다고 믿습니다.

School vacation starts on July 18 for students and the 20th for the teachers. This has been a busy semester with, as we have reported, several major travel events for the whole school--the Jeju Gathering, mini-DTS with Daum School students and participating in the New Korea Prayer Gathering in Paju. Before that we had the excitement of beginning the semester at the Three Seas Center (when school wasn't snowed out) because water to the school was frozen. Everyone has also been working hard to stay on track even with all the planned and unplanned events. We trust that everyone will have a well-deserved summer rest break.

저희가 지금에까지 이를 수 있도록 하나님께서 하신 모든 일을 나누는 특별한 보고서를 보게 되실 것입니다.

You will have seen our special issue giving thanks for all that God has done to bring us this far. We are truly grateful.

 

현재로선, 다음 단계, 즉 생명의강 학교의 새 보금자리가 될 공동체마을을 다시 디자인해서 확정짓는 단계에 있습니다. 학교건물과 교사및 다른 일꾼들을 위한 숙소가 세워질 것입니다. 주님께서는 이뿐 아니라 북한의 개방을 준비하기 위한 기도, 세미나, 화해사역, 치유사역 및 다른 행사에 참석하러 오는 사람들을 위한 공간도 필요하다는 점을 보여주셨습니다.

At the moment, we are working on finalizing the redesign for the next phase, Community Village, which will be the new home of The River of Life School. This will include a school buliding and dormitory space as well as residential space for faculty and other workers. The Lord has impressed on us the need to also provide space for people who want to come together for prayer, seminars, reconciliation, healing and other events in preparation for the opening of North Korea.

 

이 건축프로그램을 추진하기 위해 이번 해에 약 3억7천만원 (미화 삼십오만불)과 2020년까지 4백만불을 모금해야 합니다. 큰 액수지만 하나님께서 명하신 일이기 때문에 그분께서 공급하시리라는 확신이 있습니다. 자세한 내용을 알고 싶으신 분은 여기 영어와 한국어로 된 건축예산안이 있습니다. 이 사역에 후원을 하기 원하시는 분은 아래 후원 방법을 참고해주시기 바랍니다. 주위에 후원하고자 하는 분이 계시면 이 이메일에 답장으로 연락을 주시기 바랍니다. 한국과 미국에 있는 단체나 개인이 후원에 대해 직접 듣기를 원하시면 제가 방문할 수 있으며 저는 이번 9월과 10월에 로스엔젤레스에 있을 예정입니다. 어떤 방법으로 도와주시든, 모든 일이 하나님의 계획대로 이뤄지도록 저희와 함께 마음을 모아 기도해주시기 바랍니다. 그래서 이 일이 앞으로 잘 전진해나가도록 주님께서 재정과 동역자들을 보내주시길 기도해 주십시요.

In order to keep moving forward with our building program, we need to raise roughly $350,000 (370,000,000 Korean won) this year and another $4 million by 2020. It's a lot but we are confident in our Lord to provide for the work that He has commanded. If you are interested in the details, we have the construction budget available here in English and Korean. If you would like to join in supporting this project, see the information below on contributing. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please let me know by responding to this newsletter. I am open to speaking about this in Korea and in the States and will be making a trip to Los Angeles the end of September and October. Whatever you do, pray with us that all will go according to God's plan. Please pray with us that the Lord will send the funds and partners needed to move this effort forward.
